Baragran - a very small village falls in Tarapur Kothi of Lug Valley in Kullu district. It is connected to district headquartes by road in 1997. This village is a very fascinating and beautifully nestled on the southern part of the valley. In Tarapur Kothi it lies on the sunny side. This village consists nearly 70 to 80 houses. Mostly many houses are made of stones, wood and clay. These houses are of gable shaped. People mostly prefer to construct their houses in gable shape. The reason for this is to protect the houses from breaking due overload of snow in winter. Now concrete building are coming up here. People of this village are very simple and loving. To the north-west side of the village is very large plain cultivating land. According to some legend, Pandava's when in exile were constructing a stair to heaven from this place but they were unable to construct it in one night. The night vanished when they were left with only one to stair to build. They stopped to build it then and left the place. But there are no documentry as well as other proofs here to support this saying. The main occupation of villagers is agriculture. They mostly sow wheat, rice, maize, Kodra, Gangari ( a special type of rice with black husk) etc. The fields are terrace shaped and ploughing of fields is done by oxes. People have now become very profesional in agriculture point of view. They have switched over to cash crops for the last five years and they are gaining good from it. From education point of view, this village is leading other villages of valley. Village is having a temple of village deity "Shri Viru Nath" at the centre of the village. Local fairs are celebrated here with great fervor, religious, cultural and traditional way. The local fairs which are celebrated in this village are, Virshu in the month of March and April and Shayari in the moth of september every year. Also Maghi fair(saja) is celebrated in a very cultural way for seven days. Although this fair is celebrated throughout the valley, but the celebration of this fair in Baragran is different one. Village people generally get togather at particular place during. Food, locally brewed wine from all the houses is collect at that particular place and is served to all village people by inviting them to the get-togather system. Actually in old days, Maghi was celebrated in this fashion throughout the valley. But modernisation has changed the living standard of village people. People are discarding the old ways of celebrations of fairs in villages. Discarding of celebration in old fashioned has been stopped in many villages beacuase of disrutions caused during such fairs by some miscreants.

A brief description of Lug Valley
Lug Valley is a very small valley very close to the heart of Kullu District in Himachal Pradesh. Its joined to Kullu by a state Highway from Dhalpur Maidan. The place from where this valley is connected to Kullu is commonly known as Bhuthi Stand. The state highway meanders through narrow street of Shishamati market to Lug Valley. Prior to independence there was only one road leading to Dalighat from Kullu. It was only life line for the inhabitants of Valley. But with the passage of time after independece, residents of valley waited a long to get new roads in the valley. After the lone road upto Dalighat, we got Shalang road. And then in 1997, Tarapur met its long demanded road network upto Baragran village. Actually this road is upto Shalani which is hardly 500m away from Baragran village. This road has improved the living standard of people to some extent. Now many more roads are coming into existance in the valley. Road network will improve the life of people in Valley.
There are many tourist interest places in Valley which are worth to be seen. Many tourist places in the valley are still lying away from the eyes of people due to their inaccessibility. Valley is less explored as compared to other parts of Kullu District. Places need much more exploration. Tourist place Kaisdhar is about twenty five kilometer away from Kullu. Upto Peez village road has been led but after there onward journey has to be performed to reach there. It has spectacular scenic beauty of nature. This place has two room Banglow with all the available facilities for night stay. Lets enjoy this for now.. more i'll put in this blog next...
